Xiaomi is releasing a new operating system called HyperOS, which will replace its current MIUI system. HyperOS is designed to unify all Xiaomi devices into a single integrated system, with a focus on low-level refactoring, intelligent connectivity, proactive intelligence, and end-to-end security. It will come pre-installed on the Xiaomi 14 series, and will eventually be rolled out to other Xiaomi devices, including Redmi devices.

HyperOS is touted to be lighter and faster than MIUI, with a smaller firmware size of 8.75GB compared to MIUI 14's 13.09GB. It will also feature a brand-new user interface.

Here is a breakdown of everything you should know about the Xiaomi HyperOS in 5 points.

  • 1.User friendly operating system: In the past 13 years, Xiaomi has grown rapidly with over 1.1 billion users globally and a product range spanning 200 categories. However, the company faced challenges with managing multiple device operating systems and ensuring interoperability in the age of IoT. To tackle this challenge, Xiaomi started the development of HyperOS in 2017.
HyperOS, which the company says is the “human-centric” OS, is designed to be more user-friendly, intuitive, and functional than MIUI. It features a modern, streamlined design language and a host of innovative features that enhance the usability of Xiaomi devices. It allows seamless device switching, remote access to data and apps, and leverages AI for features like speech generation, image search, and artwork creation.

  • 2. Based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP): Xiaomi's HyperOS is a lightweight and efficient operating system based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This means that it is not dependent on Google's Android services, and it can be tailored to Xiaomi's specific needs. HyperOS is designed to run smoothly on devices with less powerful hardware, making it a good choice for budget-friendly Xiaomi devices.
  • 3. HyperOS Features: HyperOS is a refined version of MIUI that offers key improvements in performance, AI features, connectivity, and security. It enhances performance with faster app loading, better background memory retention, reduced disk latency, and smoother animations. Additionally, it integrates AI features such as AI-generated text, text capture from photos, doodle-to-painting conversion, and natural language image search.
HyperOS ensures smart connectivity with Xiaomi HyperConnect and Hypermind, enabling functions like using your phone's rear camera as a webcam, seamless data sharing, and receiving phone notifications on larger-screen devices. It also focuses on security by opening HyperConnect to third-party developers and emphasising encryption, permission management, and security protocols. Users can also customise the lock screen and experience minor UI adjustments in the control centre and stock apps.
  • 4 .Compatible devices : HyperOS, a unified operating system compatible with a wide range of Xiaomi devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart home products, and even cars, streamlines device management within the Xiaomi ecosystem. Registration for the domestic version of HyperOS began on October 26, 2023, at 10 pm, with the official rollout scheduled for December 2023.
Eligible devices include the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro phones, the Redmi K60 Ultra phone, and other Xiaomi and Redmi devices such as the Xiaomi Watch S3, Xiaomi Pad 6 Max 14, Xiaomi TV S Pro 65, Xiaomi TV S Pro 75, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85 (MiniLED TVs), Xiaomi Sound speaker, and Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro.
  • 5. Rollout : HyperOS is still under development, but it is initially available on the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro smartphones in China. Xiaomi plans to roll out HyperOS to more devices in the future. The rollout schedule for China and the international market includes pre-installation on the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85" MiniLED, and Xiaomi Watch S3. In December, several other devices will receive HyperOS as an over-the-air update, including the Redmi K60 Ultra, Xiaomi Pad 6 Max 14", Xiaomi TV S Pro 65, Xiaomi TV S Pro 75, Xiaomi Sound Speaker, and Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 Pro. Additionally, Xiaomi will release Mijia APP 9.0 for smart home devices in early December 2023.
